This week’s Oklahoma college Players of the Week, presented by First United Bank, are Daniela Wallen, OCU; Jesheon Cooper, UCO; and Breiman Alexander, OKWU.
Daniela Wallen, senior, Oklahoma City
The OCU senior continues to lead the way for her Stars as OCU has won now 10 straight games. Wallen is averaging 22.9 points per game for the season, a number that is good enough to be second in the country in the NAIA. She averaged 30.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in two wins last week. Her 35 points on Saturday was a career high, and while she scored only 25 (yeah, only 25) against Haskell on Wednesday, she did it in just 22 minutes of court time.
Jesheon Cooper, junior, Central
Central is off to its best start in school history at 9-0, tying the mark set in 1982-1983. Cooper is having an impact for the Bronchos on both ends of the court. She recorded a pair of double-doubles in UCO’s two wins last week with 20 points and 14 rebounds in a conference win over Southwest Baptist and 12 points and 18 boards in a victory over in-state opponent Mid-America Christian. Cooper also notched three blocks in each of the wins.
Breiman Alexander, sophomore, Oklahoma Wesleyan (Del City H.S.)
Alexander averaged 23.0 ppg in two contests last week, but the bulk of his scoring came in a 112-107 double overtime win at Kansas Wesleyan. The sophomore had seven rebounds and five assists to go with 38 points, which included knocking down a three-pointer with 17 seconds left in regulation that sent the game into the overtime sessions. Alexander scored 13 of the Eagles’ 27 points in the two OTs and closed out the game going 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 19 seconds to seal the win.
