Oklahoma City started the year at No. 1 and that’s where it finished in May. For the ninth time in 13 years, the Stars won the national title in men’s golf.
And they did it in fine fashion, distancing themselves from second place – and No. 1 ranked – Texas Wesleyan by 28 strokes.
Senior Sondre Ronold closed out his OCU career with an individual title as well. He shot 69-69-74-71 for the tournament as he held off by two strokes two competitors in a tie for second place and by three strokes his teammate Michael Palmer.
The national championship was the 50th in OCU history for all sports.
It had been a long layover since the last competition for the Stars. Oklahoma City captured its fourth consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference championship in April and Palmer had earned that individual crown.
OCU won two other events on the season – the Cal State-San Marcos Cougar Invitational and the San Antonio Shootout.
