OKLAHOMA CITY – In a 7-6 vote, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association board voted against continuing with the association’s plans to continue to reopening process into Phase 2.
The failure of the passage of that motion means that things will go back to the way they have already been put in place in the OSSAA handbook.
The short message on the OSSAA website following the meeting reads:
“The OSSAA Board of Directors met in a special meeting today, May 22, 2020 to discuss summertime activities. The Board voted to conduct summertime activities in accordance with current Rules and Policies as stated in the Administrators Handbook.”
The meeting on Friday morning was a special meeting with only this motion of the agenda, so it was the only topic discussed. Many points were heard during the meeting which lasted nearly two hours. The next scheduled meeting is set for June 9.
The decisions of when and how to proceed with summertime activities now rests with the individual schools. The schools will also now be able to host leagues and camps this summer.
