ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – No. 6 Northeastern State clinched a share of the 2018 MIAA Regular Season Title following a 9-0 dismantling of Missouri Western State on Sunday afternoon. The win for the RiverHawks (14-4, 8-0 MIAA) is their 46th straight in MIAA regular season action and their fifth straight conference title.
In its six year of MIAA membership Northeastern State owns the longest stretch of MIAA regular season titles in the sport, and is tied with Lincoln for the second most conference women’s tennis championships.
Sunday’s win is NSU’s fifth overall duel sweep of the season and third against a MIAA foe.
The Griffons could not manage to get more than three game wins on the RiverHawks in any set, and were swept on two courts. Easton Parker and Tatjana Stoll won 8-0 in No. 3 doubles, and Karla Tomaic took No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0.
No. 8 ranked Tatjana Stoll was the match clincher for the second day in a row and won her 12th straight singles match 6-0, 6-3. On court-two, No. 39 Mayra Jovic continued her perfect season at 16-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Missouri Western State is now 10-11 overall and 2-7 in MIAA play.
The RiverHawks will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday with a make-up match against Lindenwood, which will be played in Springfield, Mo. A win for Northeastern State will give them the top-overall seed for the MIAA Tournament and an outright league regular season championship.
