Tulsa Roughnecks
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– On their second road trip of the season the Tulsa Roughnecks traveled to Albuquerque to take on the USL Championship’s newest team, New Mexico United, and fell 2-1.
Opening up the first half Devon Sandoval puts New Mexico on the board in the 7th minute with Santi Moar finding the back of the net in the 20th. Despite the Roughnecks maintaining a 57 percent possession and several opportunities throughout the first 45 minutes, we saw New Mexico United end the half leading 2-0.
After the second half began, Luca Lobo puts the Tulsa Roughnecks on the board with a goal in the 60th minute as a result of a set piece following Mallan Roberts’ saved header. In fact, five of the Roughnecks seven goals this season have been from set pieces.
After a hard-fought second half, the game would finish with New Mexico United handing the Roughnecks their first defeat of the 2019 season with a 2-1 loss and rewarding New Mexico with their first 3-point performance of the season. It was not an ideal ending for the Roughnecks trip to Albuquerque, but they come away with that all important 1 point on the road.
The Tulsa Roughnecks will be back in action next Saturday, March 23 at ONEOK Field when they take on the Tacoma Defiance.
