LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rogers State’s Andrea Morales has been named the Wilson Division II National Pitcher of the Week, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
The El Paso, Texas native was in rare form last week as she went 3-0 in the circle and tossed her first career perfect game and third career no-hitter in consecutive starts. She followed that up with 10 strikeouts and only one hit in 5.0 innings in relief. In the perfect game on Friday, the senior shut down Fort Hays State with 14 strikeouts then turned around and threw a no-no against Nebraska-Kearney with 15 punchouts on Saturday. In total, Morales fanned 39 with only one walk and one hit in 19.0 innings of work.
The Division II Pitcher of the Week award is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which consists of two head coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their member head coach.
The Hillcats will begin their postseason journey as the No. 3-seed in the MIAA Tournament on Thursday, May 5 in a first-round matchup against No. 6-seed Missouri Southern. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
