Southeastern’s two starting pitchers, Jacee Bennett and Mindy McElroy, had a combined record of 43-8 in 2013. Both are returning for the 2014 campaign and that is likely a big factor that the Savage Storm is the preseason favorite to win the Great American Conference.
SOSU won both the regular season and the postseason tournament championship last season and are at the top of the coaches’ poll to bring to the season.
East Central was picked to finish in second place this season, which is also not a surprise because the Lady Tigers finished there at the end of 2013 and have much of the same cast of characters returning.
Southern Nazarene tied for seventh in the poll, while Northwestern, under new management, came in the poll at No. 9 and Southwestern was picked to finish 10th.
