CLAREMORE – Former Rogers State forward Jeylyn Sharpe has inked his first professional basketball contract signing with BBC Grengewald Hueschtert of the Nationale 2 league in Luxembourg.
The reigning Heartland Conference Player of the Year heads to Luxembourg to bolster a Grengewald Hueschtert squad that finished atop the N2 standings with a 17-11 record and earned an opportunity to compete for promotion to the Total League.
“If it wasn’t for Rogers State I wouldn’t have had this opportunity,” Sharpe said. “I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to play for RSU but am excited to be going to Europe. I get to continue playing at a professional level and explore the world. I want to thank the Rogers State community and can’t wait to represent Rogers State and Ketchum the best that I can.”
A four-year member of the Hillcats, Sharpe closed out his career with 1,125 career points as the second leading scorer in program history. The Ketchum, Okla. native totaled 438 points, eight most in program history, combined with 202 rebounds, fourth most in a single season in school history. He became the first in the program’s 10 year history to pass the 500 career rebound mark with 511 boards. Sharpe ranks in the top ten in 14 career statistical categories.
“Jeylyn signing his first pro contract is just a reminder of the four great years he had here at Rogers State. His work ethic and ability to continue to improve is a big reason these doors opened for him. He will represent our program and university well as he continues his playing career overseas. I couldn’t be more proud of Jeylyn and he definitely deserves this,” head coach Justin Barkley said.
