SHAWNEE – Six Lady Bison women’s soccer student-athletes were named to Women’s Professional Soccer League squads for the summer.
The WPSL is the largest women’s soccer league in the world, with well over 100 teams competing each summer. The league provides college-aged women the chance to enhance their skills and maintain their fitness levels during the summer months in preparation for collegiate competition. NCAA eligibility is not effected by playing in the WPSL.
Kelsey Bumgarner, an All-Great American Conference Honorable Mention selection last season, earned a spot with Oklahoma City FC for a second straight summer, while Ruth King, a National Christian College Athletic Association All-American, and incoming freshman Hannah White, earned spots on the squad for the first time. Last season, Bumgarner helped OKCFC finished third in the WPSL’s Southwest Conference, winning nine games.
Rachel Beiermann and Reagan Mann return for a second stint with Texas Spurs FC after helping the team to a second place finish in the Southwest Conference in 2016. Mann was honored as an All-GAC Honorable Mention selection this past fall, while Beiermann appeared in 19 matches for the Lady Bison, starting 11.
Jennifer Goethe earned a spot with BuxMont Torch FC based out of Dublin, Pennsylvania. The squad last competed in 2015, finishing third in the Power 5 Conference. Goethe was named Second Team All-GAC in 2016.
Oklahoma Baptist finished third in the Great American Conference last season as eight were named to All-GAC teams. The Lady Bison will start the 2017 season with a friendly against Oklahoma Christian at the OBU Soccer Complex on Thursday, August 24 at 6 p.m.
