HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – It was the first NCAA Division II postseason competition for Southern Nazarene in volleyball and the Crimson Storm made the most of it.
No. 2 seed Southern Nazarene swept No. 7 seed Arkansas-Monticello, 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-14), in the 2014 Great American Conference quarterfinal match.
Taylor Jacobs, who was named GAC Player of the Year on Thursday night, led her team on Friday afternoon in the win at the Bank of the Ozarks Arena. The senior had 11 kills – six in a dominating second set – and 13 digs on the day.
Fellow senior Emilee Crawford had a match-high 12 kills and seemed to get stronger as the afternoon went on.
Kaylee Piatt recorded 40 assists, which is a GAC tournament record for a three-set match, and Abbey Bell had 20 digs on the day.
SNU (21-9) will meet third seeded Southeastern (18-13) in the semifinal on Friday. The two split the regular season meetings with each team winning at home.
First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Bank of the Ozarks Arena.
