WEATHERFORD, Okla. – SWOSU Head Football Coach Chet Pobolish and his coaching staff announced Wednesday the addition of 36 student-athletes who have joined the Bulldog Football program on National Signing Day. They join four mid-year enrollees in making up the Bulldogs 40-member recruiting class of 2021.
“Recruiting changed quite a bit this year, due to the pandemic, but we felt like we were ahead of the ball and able to turn something that could’ve been a negative into an opportunity,” Pobolish said. “I really feel like our staff did a great job of identify student-athletes who will fit into our program and be a great representation of Bulldog Football.”
Of the newcomers signing to join the Bulldogs, three are transfers with two years of eligibility remaining while 37 will come to SWOSU as true freshmen. The Dawgs added 21 players who will start their career on offense, 17 who will play defense and two specialists, with wide receiver and offensive line the positions most addressed with eight signees apiece. Incoming Bulldogs hail from five different states, with SWOSU signing 19 Oklahoma high school graduates and 18 players from Texas with one signee each from California, Colorado and Kansas.
“It’s extremely important for us to have success recruiting in Oklahoma and Texas,” Pobolish said. “When we first create our recruiting board, we build a circle 250 miles around Weatherford because there’s enough talent in that area for us to focus on. It’s important to us to find kids who want to come here and can fit into our community and it’s also important for their parents to be able to come visit and see them play.”
