WEATHERFORD – For the first time since January 2014, the SWOSU Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams will host home games inside Rankin Williams Fieldhouse this Saturday (Dec. 3) when Southern Arkansas comes to town for a Great American Conference doubleheader.
The games are being moved to accommodate a state-wide workshop, hosted by the SWOSU Department of Education, which will be held in the multi-purpose Pioneer Cellular Event Center on Saturday afternoon. Admission will not be charged for the games, which will maintain their start times of 1:00 and 3:00 pm, with fans being asked to bring a holiday gift or canned food donation as an alternative.
Rankin Williams Fieldhouse served as the home court of the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs from 1957-2014 and housed five Lady Bulldog teams that claimed the NAIA National Championships and several other national tournament qualifiers and conference champions. In 2007, the court was named in honor of SWOSU’s all-time leading scorer and former Associate Athletic Director Kelli Litsch, a four-time NAIA All-American and three-time NAIA National Tournament MVP in the 1980’s.
Since the SWOSU Basketball teams moved into the new Pioneer Cellular Event Center, Rankin Williams Fieldhouse has become primarily used for academics within the Department of Kinesiology while Bulldog teams still use the facility for practice when necessary.
