Since 2002, the Southwestern Bulldogs have had two winning seasons (6-5 in 2006 and 2007). However, a change of venues may be just what is needed for a program that seems to be going in the right direction under third-year coach Dan Cocannouer.
There will be no trips south of the Red River this season. All games take place in Oklahoma and Arkansas. This could be positive for Southwestern, who were 4-18 against teams from Texas in the last five years.
The Bulldogs open the season on a Thursday night in Alva as they take on old rival Northwestern. With NWOSU’s approval into the Great American Conference, this will be a conference foe next season as it was many years before in the old OIC. See the full schedule here.
Eight of the next 10 games in Southwestern’s 11-game slate make up the Great American Conference schedule, including Southeastern and East Central. Ouchita Baptist comes to Weatherford on Oct.15 for the Bulldogs’ homecoming game.
The other two nonconference games for Southwestern are also in-state opponents in Central and Northeastern State.
