LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Central Oklahoma women’s tennis team lost 5-3 to Washburn in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Bronchos fell in a hole after losing all three doubles points. Despite a comeback with three wins at the back end of singles competition, UCO couldn’t overcome the deficit.

“That’s been the theme all season for us,” UCO head coach Jaron Maestas said. “We struggle in doubles and we can’t overcome. That’s the way it goes though, you have to be strong at the start and not rely on singles matches.”

UCO now awaits its fate. The Bronchos are ranked fourth in the Central Region rankings. The top seven teams in the region make the postseason. Whether the Bronchos can hold a high enough ranking to continue their season will be announced next week.
