OKLAHOMA CITY – In the Battle of the Mustangs, Fort Cobb-Broxton displayed why they have been here the past three years. The FCB Mustangs defeated the Okay Mustangs 67-52 to win their third state title in a row on Saturday night.
Fort Cobb-Broxton was led on the scoreboard by Cameron Hines who finished his high school career with 21 points in the title game. Behind him was the other Hines on the Mustangs, Kellen Hines, who finished with 17 points.
Fort Cobb-Broxton showed their power early. They dominated the first quarter on a 13-2 run to start the game. Okay responded with 13 points of their own to make it a 21-15 game early. Fort Cobb-Broxton never gave up the lead as they by as many as 23 in the game.
Okay was led by Caleb Riggs. The senior guard led all scorers with 27 points on the night. Riggs was the only Okay player to score in the double digits as the next highest scorer was Lloyd Houston and Kaleb Pierce who each scored 6 points.
The second half was not kind to Okay as there seemed to be a lid on the rim. The Okay Mustangs scored 12 points in the fourth but had to wait until the 4:41 mark in the quarter for the first point. Okay finished shooting 37 percent from the field and 26 percent from beyond the arc. For FCB on the other hand, the basket seemed twice its normal size as the Mustangs finished the night shooting 46 percent from the field and 47 percent from downtown.
In the fourth quarter, Fort Cobb-Broxton flexed its muscles as shot after shot fell and Okay made mistake after mistake. It was encapsulated by an offensive foul drawn on FCB’s Cameron Hines that sent the stadium into a frenzy.
A very touching moment concluded the last game of the evening as Kaden McMahan, a senior benchwarmer for Okay, scored the final bucket of the game as members of Fort Cobb-Broxton gave him the ball to give him the opportunity.
