MONTICELLO, Ark. – The East Central University football team fell on the road 49-7 to Arkansas-Monticello in Great American Conference action.
The Tigers (1-2) were led by junior Trinity Benson, with 65 yards receiving, while sophomore Dilland Gardner added 36 yards receiving and a touchdown. Junior RayJohn Austin-Ramsey went 20-of-44 passing for 202 yards.
Defensively ECU was led by junior Louden Johnson, with seven (4-3) total tackles. Redshirt junior Andre Shelton added seven (4-3) total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.
The Boll Weevils (2-1) got the scoring started by taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. UAM then added a third TD, for a 21-0 lead, with 8:15 left in the second quarter.
ECU cut into the lead with 2:17 left in the half to cut the deficit to 21-7. Gardner recorded his second TD of the year, running in from 22 yards out.
The Boll Weevils got started quickly in the third quarter to regain the 21-point advantage, with a TD with 10:51 left.
UAM then added three more touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the 49-7 final.
The Tigers will now return home to face Ouachita Baptist, Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at Norris Field at Koi Ishto Stadium.
