The East Central Tigers look to spring forward from their Lone Star Conference North title last season as they move into the Great American Conference in 2011.
Opening the season on the road in San Antonio facing Incarnate Word may be a tough way to start, but that’s the way the schedule makers in Ada seem to like it. In recent years, the Tigers opening opponents have been solid competitors. Since 2000, ECU is 2-9 in season openers. However, they have squared off against perennially tough teams like Pittsburg State and Tarleton State and FCS squads in Sam Houston St. and Missouri St. (twice!).
Following the opener, only in-state (and former LSC) rivals Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State appear on the Tigers’ slate other than the new GAC opponents. See the full schedule here.
ECU will play the full 11 games allowed D-II schools in 2011. The docket is also favorable to the Tigers in that Arkansas-Monticello, Southern Arkansas and Harding all must travel to Norris Field. SAU and Harding are the final games of the regular season for ECU as the Tigers get to stay in Ada in November.
