EDMOND, Okla. (Sept. 22) –Adrian Nelson’s 92-yard touchdown pass to Marquis Walters ignited a 29-point outburst that carried Central Oklahoma to a big 35-20 upset of No. 9-ranked Washburn Saturday afternoon at Wantland Stadium.

It was the first win of the season for the Bronchos and the first for rookie head coach Nick Bobeck as UCO won its initial Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association contest after opening with three losses.

The Ichabods fell to 3-1 overall and in the conference.

Washburn led 7-6 at halftime on a last-second touchdown pass and scored on its first possession of the third quarter to go up 14-6, but the Bronchos scored 29 unanswered points to take control.

Nelson’s bomb to Walters – the third-longest TD pass in school history – started the onslaught and pulled UCO within 14-12 after a failed two-point conversion try, with the Bronchos going ahead to stay six minutes later on defensive end Colton Byford’s 25-yard interception return.

Christian Bobo’s one-yard TD plunge and Joshua Birmingham’s eight-yard scoring dash pushed UCO’s lead to 35-14 with 2:58 left before the Ichabods got a 75-yard consolation score.

Nelson finished 14-of-29 passing for 218 yards, while Birmingham rushed for 137 yards on 22 carries.

Mitch Buhler hit 23-of-48 passes for 368 yards for WU.
