SHAWNEE – A pair of second-half goals was enough to push Oklahoma Baptist women’s soccer’s unbeaten run to seven matches after OBU defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at the OBU Soccer Complex. The Lady Bison are the only unbeaten team in the Great American Conference through the first half of league play.
After going without a goal through the first 68 minutes of action, the Lady Bison were finally able to unlock a stingy Northwestern defense in the 69th minute thanks to Halle Hill. The freshman winger cleaned up a rebound after Ruth King saw her low effort saved by the Rangers’ relief goalkeeper, Kylee Wallace.
King wouldn’t be denied a second time when, 26 seconds later, she found herself with some space just outside the box. Her shot across the face of Wallace’s goal ricocheted off the left post and into the right side-netting to double OBU’s advantage and insure the victory.
Oklahoma Baptist (9-1-1, 5-0-1 GAC) finishes the first half of league play in first place on 16 points, seven points clear of second-place Ouachita Baptist.
The Lady Bison have a brief respite from GAC action when they host West Texas A&M on Monday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
