Muskogee, Fort Gibson need overtime to settle things in Tournament of Champions

Jada Ford had six points in overtime on Monday as Muskogee beat Fort Gibson, 50-44, in the first round of the 2014 Tournament of Champions.

The rivals met in the nightcap of the TOC and the play on the court made it look as though whoever scheduled the bracket saved the best for last.

The game was tied with two and a half minutes remaining, but Aaliyah Dailey-Lee made shots on consecutive possessions to give the Lady Tigers a four-point lead with 1:28 on the clock in regulation.  Muskogee came back quickly and Danazia Brown’s layup got her team to within two.

Dailey-Lee’s next shot attempt was blocked by Trena Mims and her follow-up missed.  Muskogee had one more opportunity and Aaliyah Wilson’s layup with 17 seconds left would lock up the score at 41 apiece and allow for four more minutes of basketball.

Wilson had a game-high 16 points along with seven rebounds for the Roughers.  Dailey-Lee led the way with 13 points for the Lady Tigers.

Muskogee will meet Booker T. Washington in the early semifinal on Tuesday.  BTW blew out Sterling, 61-36.

Tulsa East Central’s offense got stronger as the game went on and held off Adair, 62-54.  East Central’s Lauren Billie and Adair’s Keni Jo Lippe each put in 23 points.

The Cardinals will take on Southmoore in the other semi.  The Sabercats shut down Preston, 61-33.
