COLUMBUS, Ohio – SWOSU Women’s Basketball has been tabbed as the No. 2 seed for the NCAA Divisoin II Elite Eight, which will begin on Tuesday, March 26th, at Alumni Hall in Columbus, Ohio. With their seeding, the Lady Bulldogs have been matched up with No. 7-seed Saint Anselm for a national quarterfinal set to tip off at 1:30 pm (CST).
Both SWOSU and Saint Anselm will be making their first appearance in the Division II Women’s Elite Eight. SWOSU heads to Columbus as the champions of the Central Region with a record of 33-1 while the Hawks improved to 22-9 with a victory over LeMoyne College in the East Regional Championship game. The Lady Bulldogs have won 33 consecutive games since dropping their season opener to Emporia State, a loss they avenged in the Central Regional quarterfinals with a 71-65 victory over the Hornets.
The national quarterfinal will be the first all-time matchup between SWOSU and Saint Anselm. SWOSU is in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time and they advanced to the Elite Eight with victories over Emporia State, Central Missouri and Fort Hays State in the Central Regional Championship, improving to 4-3 all-time in the NCAA postseason. Saint Anselm is making their eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament after earning an at-large bid in the East Region and they defeated Bentley, Stonehill and LeMoyne to reach the Elite Eight for the first time.
