SAN ANGELO, Texas — Cameron was two outs shy from surviving a pair of elimination games after beating St. Edward’s 3-2 in the afternoon. However, they would fall to host Angelo State later that night 4-3 in the NCAA South Central Regional. 
The Aggies will end their season with a 31-21 overall record, their first winning season since 2009, and their first NCAA National Tournament appearance.
“I was proud of the girls, I thought that we came out flat emotionally yesterday,” said head coach Rodney DeLong. “Today they came out with a little urgency, and with our team we needed to elevate our level of play and with did that today.  I was really proud of them, they did well.”
“It was a disappointing end, but they fought the whole way.”
In the opening game of the day, St. Edward’s used three infield hits and soft liner to center field to score a pair of runs in the first inning.
Later in the third inning, Cameron got their first runs in the NCAA Tournament with Breezy McComas hitting a three run shot to give the Aggies a 3-2 lead.
Those runs would be all CU starter Sam Betts (13-8) would need for her 12th complete game of the season as Cameron would get their first win in San Angelo, 3-2, over St. Edward’s.
The Aggies put together six hits with McComas leading the way with three RBI.
In game two the Aggies escaped a bases loaded jam but the Rambelles would get a run off a ball that hit the top of the right field fence.
Misty Dooley and Tara Martini put two on for Paige Daino who smacked a two RBI double to give CU the lead.  Carly Allerheiligen later tripled in Daino to make a 3-1 advantage for the Aggies after the first.
After three scoreless frames ASU threatened with runners on second and third with one out. The Rambelles would pop out twice to keep it a 3-1 CU lead the top of the fifth.
Cameron kept ASU quiet until the seventh inning and after a strikeout the Rambelles singled then they would smack a game-tying homer. A batter later, Angelo hit a solo shot over the right field fence to get the go-ahead run in.
In the bottom half of the inning Macy McKay hit a leadoff single and then Dooley reached off of an error from the ASU third baseman. After a pair of fielders choices Dooley stood at third and Martini at first.
Now with Daino at the plate, Angelo State tossed a pitch the sailed over to the backstop, Dooley would be sent home as the tying run but she would be called out in a bang-bang play at the plate ending the game and ending Cameron’s season.
Cameron came up with eight hits with Daino and McKay both having a pair.
Kelsey Watson (16-12) went the distance and she would strike out six batters while giving up four runs.
“All this year the sixth and seventh inning have been good for us and we played until the end of a lot of ballgames and we came back to beat a lot of good teams,” said DeLong. “This season will help us and it’s something to build off of for next season and I think it’s going to carry us for the next couple of years.”
“I hope that the team understands that playing in a regional tournament like this is an expectation for us.”
