The Cameron basketball teams opened the new year right on Saturday. Â For the first time this season, both teams won on the same day.
The Aggies took two from Northwestern in Aggie Gym in the final non-conference games before the Lone Star Conference portion of the schedule begins and will take the teams through the remainder of the regular season.
Jazzmine Robinson led the way for the women with a double-double, her third of the season, as Cameron beat the Rangers, 59-50.
Robinson had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Â The Aggies (3-6) won their second consecutive game and coach Tom Webb talked about the importance of picking up where the team left off before the break.
“Pace is a big deal for us and we’ve talked a lot about it,” Webb said.  “At the end of every half of every game we have ended really strong and I think we wear them down.
“At Southeastern if you took the last eight minutes of the first half and last eight of the second half I think we were 23 to three in scoring, it was the same thing today in the first half we go on a big run.”
Jonna Gregory led the Rangers (3-8) with 13 points.
The Aggie men move their winning streak to four with a 72-53 win over Northwestern and are 8-4 headed into league play.
KeDorian Sullivan and Cameron Lee each scored 16 in the win and Deondre Ray had 15. Â D.J. Jackson had 11 assists.
NOrthwestern’s Darrian Dempsey scored 17.
Head coach Nate Gamet said his team was ready to play.
“I thought defensively tonight it was our best effort of the season,” Gamet said. “The guys came out and executed the game plan and just did a solid job, we held a team to less than 30 percent from the field, and under 15 percent from the arc…we had some really good energy tonight and I was glad to see that.”
