Both of the boys basketball games at Classic Bowl XXVIII showed more offense than defense.
And a couple of players used one period of that offense to make the difference in their games.
Dodge City’s Dayton McGroarty didn’t score in the second half of the first game of the evening. But he didn’t have to.
McGroarty had a game-high 16 points in the first half, helping his team to 44-34 lead at the intermission, which it was able to keep. The White Team hung on for a 77-74 win.

Cashion’s Vaughn Raney drained four three-pointers in the second half for the Red Team, including two big ones in a personal eight-point run in his team’s final 10 points. Raney and Cole DeWitt from Cherokee shared a game-high 18 points in the 85-80 win.
Weatherford’s Brandon Kirk also hit four three’s and also scored 18, but in the loss. The White Team made 15 from behind the arc.
