PORTALES, N.M. – Paige Daino and Breezy McComas tied the Cameron softball program record of homeruns in a career as they each hit their 43rd in the fourth inning of CU’s 5-0 win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday; the win gave the Aggies the series sweep.
Daino and McComas each hit their 42nd in back-to-back fashion in game two of the series on Friday and duplicated that in game three by going back-to-back for the record tying blasts.
All of the Black and Gold’s offense came in the fourth inning, as Callie Busby started it all with a three run homer after Kaytln Kizarr singled and Brenna Busby walked with two outs. After Busby’s bomb, Daino crushed a shot to left field for her 10th homer of the season and 43rd of her career. Not to be outdone, McComas came up in the next at bat and hit her eighth of the season and 43rd of her career, giving the Ags the 5-0 lead.
Bethany Hines didn’t need much run support in the game though, going all seven innings and giving up just four hits while striking out three Greyhound batters. She is now 21-5 on the season.
Annie Combs had two of CU’s eight hits, while the other six were spread out through the lineup.
The win gives Cameron the three game series sweep and improves their overall record to 28-13 and their Lone Star Conference mark to 16-4, which has them tied with West Texas A&M for second in the league rankings.
The Aggies and the ninth-ranked Lady Buffs will square off in a three game series this upcoming week, starting with one game on Thursday, Apr. 13, followed by a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 14.
