ALVA – The Rangers continued their winning streak with another big win over the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian Saturday evening. The Rangers came into the match fierce, as they looked for their fifth consecutive win of the season. The Rangers carried their momentum from their 5-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State Wednesday, as they beat the Eagles 2-1. This was the first home win for the Rangers in the 2021 season. The Rangers are now 5-1 on their season, as the Eagles fall 0-3.
The Rangers continue to have their best start in the Division II era. The five-game win streak is the longest since 2004. The Rangers got on the board first with a goal from Tiara Campbell, with an assist from Kailani Kealoha and Callie Haneborg. Reilly Marks scored the game’s second goal; after having her first shot blocked, she followed through to capitalize on the rebound opportunity to push the Rangers’ lead to 2-0.
The Rangers led the Eagles 2-0 going into halftime.
The Eagles outshot the Rangers 17-12 for the game. The Eagles had seven shots on the goal, and the Rangers also totaled seven shots on target.
Marks tallied having three shots of the night, all three being on target, one shot resulting in a goal. Isabella Mcmillan and Haneborg each had two shots, one of those being on target. Campbell had two shots on target, one resulting in a goal, and Cynthia Armas had one shot on target.
Reagan Allen finished the game with six saves of seven shots face throughout the two halves.
The Rangers came out strong in the second half keeping the game at a steady pace defensively. The Rangers’ defense did their job with keeping the game and the ball in front of them.
The Eagles’ lone goal came from Kyla Lovelace, with only 14 seconds left in the game.
The Rangers will start Conference play on Sept. 28 at home on Rangers soccer field at 6 p.m. as they face off against the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State, who are currently 2-3 on the season.
