Beating New York is good anytime, but this win was a big one.
Tulsa defeated the Liberty, 93-88, Sunday night to pick the Shock’s 10th win of the season. This marks the first time since the franchise has been in Tulsa that the club has amassed double-digit wins for the year.
The Shock (10-20) still have an outside chance at making the postseason, though the chance is extremely small.
Candice Wiggins led all scorers on the night with 25.
“Coming into this game we all realized that New York is one of the most physical teams and they have a really aggressive style so we were all ready for that mentally,” Wiggins said.
“It was a fun game and I think it shows a lot of growth over the season and I am just really excited for our team.”
Courtney Paris had one of the biggest games of the season, earning a double-double with a season high 13 rebounds and 10 points.
Three other Shock players reached double-digit scoring: Riquna Williams (22), Skylar Diggins (14) and Jennifer Lacy (10).
Shock coach Gary Kloppenburg talked of the team’s performance.
“I am really pleased with our team,” Kloppenburg said.
“We did some really good things. We got to the line 37 times. I am just really pleased with our players and all the stuff we have gone through, to have a close game with a quality team was great.”
Tulsa is at home again Friday night, hosting the Los Angeles Sparks at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NBA TV.

Proud of the Shock. They have really turned it around since the slow start.
For a team that’s not in the running for the playoffs right now, the Shock is definitely making its presence felt.
