Entering their series with the top LSC team Javelinas, Cameron needed to win all four games and have Eastern New Mexico fall in at least one game to UT Permian Basin in order to qualify for postseason play.
The Aggies did just that knocking Tarleton State out of contention for the fourth and final spot in the tournament, which will take place May 11-13 in San Angelo, Texas hosted by the regular season LSC champions Angelo State.
The Aggies complete the regular season 29-18 overall and 10-10 in the LSC. TAMUK is 31-16 with a 16-8 league mark.
Cameron controlled Sunday’s finale early, behind starter John Millan (4-0) on the mound. Millan pitched six scoreless innings, holding TAMUK to six hits while he struck out nine. The senior right-hander had four Javelinas reach scoring position but worked out of each inning unharmed.
Offensively, Cody Bower got things going for Cameron in the first inning with a two run homer to left field. Bower would lead CU at the plate; recording three hits total in the game and score three runs himself.
In the third inning, CU extended their lead to 6-0 with RBI singles from Cody Knight and Luke Hughes, complimented by a two-run double from Victor DeJesus. Knight and Hughes would single again in the sixth inning to each bring home a run for the Aggies’ 8-0 advantage.
TAMUK’s only runs came in the eighth inning with Oswaldo Godina on the mound in relief as the Javelinas doubled down the left field line for two. Tyler Abrego closed out for the Aggies in the final 1.2 innings allowing just two hits.
Cameron edged the Javelinas in hits 12-11 while both sides each had one error.
