Oklahoma Baptist doubles partners Marco Carvajal and Dario Macanovic claimed the USTA/ITA Regional crown with an 8-4 win Saturday in Oklahoma City.
The duo beat University of the Southwest’s Marek Ondruj and Felix Singer to move on to Small College National Championships in Mobile, Ala., Oct. 11-13.
The regional tournament moved to Willow Creek due to rain in Shawnee and the Bison tandem gave OBU its first men’s entry in the USTA/ITA national in three seasons.
Those two will be joined by at least two Lady Bison. The singles and doubles are all-OBU finals on Monday in Shawnee.
University of the Southwest’s Marek Ondruj claimed the men’s singles slot by beating Macanovic in the semifinals and Carvajal in the finals.
Carvajal took a straight-set win over Singer in the semifinals.
Monday’s finals have Lili Fereirra playing Mariana Rosa for the singles title, followed by Fereirra and Rosa taking on Ashlynn Abbe and Iveth Luna in the doubles championship.
