Bring Back the Black

From NWOSU Sports Info.
Jay Lee, Director of Athletic Communications

Director of Athletics, Andy Carter, and Head Football Coach, Matt Walter are pleased to announce a fundraising effort to bring back the tradition of Ranger football wearing black helmets.

“As I was meeting with members of the 1999 Championship team at last year’s Homecoming game, they made their collective voice heard regarding their desire to bring back the black helmet” Carter said. “We are very excited to move forward with this process to make this a reality”.

The new helmet (picture below) will be a tremendous addition to the look of the Rangers for the 2015 season. Each new helmet costs $250 and we need to purchase 100 to fully outfit the program.

There have been several “new” happenings for the Ranger football program in the past few months:

Facilities

o Press Box at Ranger Field is in full construction. This project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2015 (Football Press Box).

o Contracts were signed with FieldTurf over Christmas break and construction in underway on new artificial turf for Ranger Field. The turf project will be completed by April 1, 2015.

o All told, including the Fieldhouse in the north end zone, over $7 million of upgrades have been invested into the Ranger Field complex.

New head coach Walter began his tenure as the leader of Ranger football on December 1st. Coach Walter and his staff are working hard to make progress for the 2015 season.
