LAWTON – The Cameron women’s basketball team came away with a 66-54 win over UT Permian Basin for homecoming on Saturday afternoon.
Cameron led by as much as 21 points until the Falcons gave them a scare in the second half, scoring 13 unanswered points to inch within two possessions with five minutes to go.
The Aggies got their act back together and closed out the game from the line, escaping with a 66-54 win on homecoming.
The Aggies recognized senior Briana Underwood for her four year career with the Black and Gold. Underwood scored the Ag’s first points in the day’s contest and finished with six points and five rebounds.
Parfitt McNair led Cameron with 21 points; her fourth game this season with over 20 points. Jamie Bonnarens scored 14 points, recorded five assists and three blocks, and Ava Battese added 12 points. Lejha Smith totaled 14 rebounds.
UTPB was led by Kristel Reid with 12 points.
The Aggies cruised to a 16 point advantage by half time as they led UTPB 33-17 at the break after shooting 43 percent from the field with six good three-pointers.
The Falcons managed to make one trey of seven chances and shot a mere 25 percent on the floor. UTPB scored just four points in the second period.
The charity stripe was quiet in the first half as UTBP made both their shots, but CU made only 1 of 4.
Out of the half, Cameron extended their lead to their largest of 21 points. Immediately after, the Falcons scored 13 unanswered points to get back within two possessions with five minutes to go.
The Aggies suffered in the third shooting just 13 percent while UTPB improved to 43 percent.
UTPB outscored the Aggies 37-33 in the second half; but CU held on from the line, going 15 for 16 in the final period to win 66-54.
Cameron is now 10-14, 8-8 LSC and UTPB is 6-18, 4-12 LSC.
