Drovers’ softball win streak reaches 20

CHICKASHA – USAO’s growing softball win streak moved to 20 straight games as the second-ranked Drovers defeated visiting Mid-America Christian University by scores of 7-1 and 10-2 in a doubleheader Tuesday in Chickasha.

USAO, now 34-1 on the year and 17-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, will play four consecutive road games beginning with a two-game set Friday at Texas Wesleyan University and Saturday against Southwestern Assemblies of God University. The Drovers next home game will be Tuesday, April 10 against Bacone College in a doubleheader set to begin at 4 p.m.

In the first MACU game, the Drovers carried a 1-0 lead before exploding for six runs in the sixth inning. Chloe Clifton (SR/Wayne, OK) added to her school-record RBI total with a single that scored Dakota Clouse(JR/Blancahard, OK). Shania Beck (SR/Pauls Valley, OK) then put the finishing touches on with a three-run homer to put USAO up 7-0. The homer for Beck was her fourth of the year and her 35th in her career.

Emily Cerny (FR/Newcastle, OK) picked up her 18th win against no defeats pitching for USAO. She allowed a seventh-inning run to ruin what would have been her sixth shutout of the year. She struck out 12 batters and walked just one.

In game two, USAO scored four runs in the third to climb in front 5-2. Clifton doubled to score Keely Kingsley and Karlie Velasco (JR/Del City, OK) and Randa Hatter (SO/Stratford, Okla.) followed with a two-run homer, her team-leading eighth of the season.

The Drovers added three more in the fourth to increase their margin to 8-2. Clifton tripled to score in another run and later crossed home on a single by Hatter.

Jordan Detherage (SR/Tecumseh, OK) got the win for the Drovers on the mound improving to 10-1. She allowed three hits and struck out seven batters.
