Former Locust Grove quarterback Fine earns Great 8 weekly award

FORT WORTH – North Texas sophomore quarterback, and former Locust Grove Pirate, Mason Fine garnered national attention for his performance in the Mean Green’s 29-26 win over Texas-San Antonio last weekend.

Fine was selected as one of the “Great 8” quarterbacks for Week Seven by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.

In the win on Saturday, Fine accounted for four touchdowns (three passing and one rushing) and the game-winning toss with 10 seconds left. He was 20-for-34 passing for 354 yards on the day.

Along with Fine, the other quarterbacks tabbed with this week’s honor were: J.T. Barrett (Ohio State), Eric Dungey (Syracuse), Mason Fine of North Texas, Will Grier (West Virginia), Conner Manning (Georgia State), Shea Patterson (Ole Miss), Khalil Tate (Arizona) and Arion Worthman (Air Force).

All 130 FBS quarterbacks are eligible for the weekly honor. The winner of the Davey O’Brien Quarterback of the Week Award, which will be one of the week’s “Great 8” quarterbacks, will be announced Tuesday.
