Andrew Brown, who was the head men’s basketball coach at Northwestern from 2007-2015, has joined the staff at Cameron University.
Earlier this month, he was officially named an assistant coach on Nate Gamet’s staff for the men’s basketball program.
“About 10 days ago, this opportunity at Cameron looked to be one that was a great fit for me and our family,” Brown said. “The more I talked to Coach Gamet, the more I realized that he would be a really good person to work for.
“Not only is he a very good, up and coming coach, a very hard worker, very organized, but he’s as good of a guy as you’re going to find. Those things were really important to me if I was going to be an assistant coach and working for somebody that was going to be really hungry to be good and to put in the time and the work.
“I’ve found a great person to do that with at Cameron.
Gamet will be entering his third season as the head coach of the Aggies, and served as an assistant for five years prior. His record in two years as the head coach is 24-30.
Named the interim head coach late in the 2012-2013 season, Gamet led the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Brown spoke highly of the occasion he has to be here and of the Cameron administration.
“The leadership at this university is really solid and really good. So we’re really blessed to be here. They had opportunities to hire other people and we were blessed enough that they offered me this opportunity.
“So we’re obviously really grateful and really blessed.”
In eight seasons at the helm at NWOSU, Brown amassed a record of 119-112. He was also an assistant coach for the Rangers from 2004-2007.
Brown was tabbed the Coach of the Year in the Great American Conference for the 2012-2013 season.
