DURANT – Southeastern Director of Athletics Keith Baxter has named Molly Franks as the Savage Storm men’s golf coach.

Franks has served as the interim coach over the second half of the 2017-18 season and will now have that interim tag removed and take over the program in full.

“Coach Franks did a good job this past season of keeping our team focused and competitive during the untimely departure of Coach Chambers,” Baxter said. “Culminating in a trip to the National Tournament and a top 10 finish.  She has a great background with her playing career but more importantly she is a good teacher.  I look forward to her leading our program.”

“It’s a great honor,” Franks said. “For the opportunity to be the head coach for such an amazing golf program. After coaching the boys last year and being a part of a record breaking season I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us. I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Southeastern family and that Coach Baxter, Cherrie Wilmoth and the rest of the athletic department and university are entrusting me this great opportunity.”

Franks took over at the start of 2018 and helped the team close out the season with its best run in program history.

She took the team to its second NCAA National Championship Tournament appearance where it finished in 10th, its highest national finish ever.

SE finished third at the Great American Conference championship, led by GAC individual champion Zach James, who would go on to be a finalist for the NCAA DII Jack Nicklaus Award and a first team All-American.
