ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University today announced that Alan Hall will relinquish his position as head football coach effective immediately.
Hall stepped away from the day-to-day leadership of the program on Sept. 9 due to health concerns, and now will focus completely on his well-being.
“Today is a difficult day for our university, our football program and the Hall family,” said Andy Carter, director of athletics. “Coach Hall has done a tremendous job in leading our program through the NCAA transition process in the face of personal health challenges.”
“We believe he will persevere through this current adversity and we offer nothing but our best wishes for him and his family.”
Hall expressed his gratitude for the support given to him and his family.
“I would like to thank Dr. (Janet) Cunningham and Andy Carter for allowing me to lead Northwestern into the NCAA,” said Hall. “At this time, I feel it is best that I focus on my long-term health and relinquish my responsibilities of leading this football program. I would like to thank the town of Alva, the alumni, and the faculty and staff of such a fine institution for all of the prayers and support during this time. It means a lot to know that we are loved and cared for by so many.”
Carter said assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Kevin Turco, who has been overseeing the leadership responsibilities of the program in Hall’s absence, will continue in that capacity until a permanent head coach is selected.
Hall became the head football coach at Northwestern on Dec. 1, 2011 and began the process of transitioning the Rangers from an NAIA program to a provisional program in NCAA Division II and the Great American Conference (GAC).
He compiled a 6-16 record in his first two seasons, including a 4-7 mark in 2012. That season marked the program’s first victory of the NCAA era, a win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and GAC wins over Southern Nazarene University and the University of Arkansas at Monticello. This year’s team is 1-6 on the season.
