The Union City Lady Tigers took the five-minute drive for the annual Minco Tournament last weekend. This tournament has never been an easy one for the ladies.

On Thursday, UC had a rematch with the Minco Bulldogs, but fell short that night and had to turn around and play the Hinton Comets on Friday needing a win to play Saturday for the consolation trophy.

Union City had a tough game to play on Friday with the tall Hinton players, but got big and took home the win, 43-32. Union City used the three-pointer much of the game. Senior Morgan Englebretson had a team high with 19 points, five of those from 22 feet away. Senior Kennedy Sepulvado and junior Alex Chipps both had nine points and sophomore Hunter Johnson with six.

Saturday at noon was the consolation game in which the Lady Tigers took on Class 4A Tuttle’s JV. The Lady Tigers took care of the game in the beginning as the final first quarter score was 21-8.

The ladies never backed down from the JV team defensively the second quarter while Tuttle only scored five more points and UC scored 19 more points. Union City walked into the locker room sitting comfortable with a half-time score of 40-13.

The Lady Tigers rotated the whole bench in the game while they kept the lead the whole game. The Lady Tigers won the game, 69-43, and finished as consolation champions.
