RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Runners of the Week for the fifth week of the cross country season. East Central University siblings Richard and Anna Mora, claimed the weekly honors. This marks the first time that a brother/sister duo have earned GAC honors on the same week.
Richard Mora paced the Tigers to a seventh-place finish, out of 45 schools, at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The race was the first of the season and earned him a 24th-place finish, best among GAC runners, with a time of 24:58.72. ECU defeated teams from Harding, Southern Arkansas, Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State and moved to the No. 5 spot in the USTFCCCA Central Region rankings.
Anna Mora turned in a personal record time of 17:47.94 at the Chile Pepper Festival, a time 20 seconds faster than her previous best. She finished 14th in a field of more than 250 competitors. The Tigers placed seventh and as top team from the GAC. ECU defeated six other GAC teams and for their efforts, moved into the top 10 in USTFCCCA Central Region rankings.
The Tigers will next be competing in the Oklahoma Baptist Invite, Saturday, Oct. 8 in Shawnee, Okla.
