Gene Krieger has been named the new volleyball coach at Northwestern.
He will be replacing Fernanda Frey, who was in Alva one season and helped revive the program that had been dormant for decades.
Krieger is a long-time volleyball who has received National Coach of the Year honors on both the NCAA Division II (Cal-Poly Pomona) and NAIA (California Baptist) levels. He was also the Coach of the Year five times while spending 10 season coaching on the high school level at King High School in Riverside, Calif.
