NSU downs Lady Blues, 2-1, to host MIAA Quarterfinals

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women’s soccer team defeated Washburn 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Yager Stadium in the regular-season finale.

The RiverHawks (12-4-1, 7-4-1 MIAA) jumped to fourth in the final MIAA standings following a double OT loss by Northwest Missouri State earlier today, and NSU will host the Bearcats in the quarterfinals of the 2012 MIAA Women’s Soccer Championship at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at DeLoache Field.

The Lady Blues (4-14-0, 4-8-0 MIAA) would have qualified for the championship with a win over NSU, but the road side dashed Washburn’s hopes for a postseason berth.

WU struck first in the eighth minute when Tia Stovall found the back of the net with help from Leah Talley.

Junior midfielder Kaili Endres headed home a corner kick from fellow junior midfielder Renee’ Valcarcel in the 27th minute to equalize.

The goal was the first of the season for Endres and the second of her career.

Junior forward Emily Voges buried the game-winning tally in the 47th minute off an assist from fellow junior forward Jennifer Clark. Voges notched her sixth marker of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Kloza (8-3-1) earned the win after saving seven shots and allowing the lone goal. Tori Fuglister (3-14-0) suffered the loss after allowing two goals and saving three shots.

Tickets to Tuesday’s MIAA Championship quarterfinal match will be $5 for everyone (including NSU students and faculty/staff). Children age 6 and under will be admitted free of charge. Tickets will be available at the entrance of DeLoache Field.
