LAWRENCE, Kan. – Freshman Tierney Coleman scored a career-high 16 points as the Oral Roberts women’s basketball team fell, 100-59, Sunday afternoon at Kansas.
ORU (0-4) started the game strong shooting 41 percent from the field that was highlighted by three, three-point buckets, including one from Regan Schumacher who connected on her first career long-shot. Although, ORU trailed after the first 10 minutes by two, the Golden Eagles got down by as much as 32 in the second before ORU broke the 30-0 Jayhawk run. The Golden Eagles were scoreless for 8:07 until Ariel Walker hit one of two free-throws. ORU was out-scored 39-3 in the second.
Kansas (3-1) continued its hot shooting from the field with a 56 percent average in the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles went on a 7-0 run in the fourth that was capitalized by a Walker three-point shot. ORU continued to a 15-2, 8-0 run over 4:09.
The Golden Eagles out-scored the Jayhawks, 19-10, in the final period. The defense forced Kansas to shoot 23.5 percent from the field. Three Golden Eagles shot in double-figures as Walker shot 50 percent, 5-for-10, from the field.
Coleman led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and Regan Schmacher collected eight rebounds.
The Jayhawks were led by Julie Brosseau, who scored 25 points, and Ioanna Chatzileonti, who grabbed 14 boards.
The Golden Eagles will play their first home game of the season Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. inside the Mabee Center against the Tarleton State Texans.
