TULSA – Another gritty performance from the Oral Roberts women’s basketball team Wednesday night propelled the Golden Eagles to a 60-56 win over South Dakota.
The Golden Eagles shot over 40 percent from the field for the third time in four games to help seal a comeback win at the Mabee Center. ORU held South Dakota to just 28 percent shooting and also forced 18 turnovers.
Sophomore Jordan Doyle poured in a career-high 19 points and narrowly missed a double-double adding eight rebounds. Doyle was 4-of-4 from behind the three-point line and 7-of-14 from the field.
Blair Bryce also was just shy of a double-double with seven points and eight boards in her fifth straight start.
South Dakota was led by a double-double from Tia Hemiller with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hemiller was 3-of-7 from the three-point line as USD made nine three-pointers in the game.
TURNING POINT
Jordan Doyle finished an and-one at the free throw line with 9:35 left in the game to give ORU a 43-42 lead. The points also started a 12-3 run for ORU to pull in front of South Dakota and hold onto a 60-56 win.
THE LEADERS
Oral Roberts: Jordan Doyle scored a career-high 19 points and added eight rebounds.
South Dakota:Â Tia Hemiller scored 15 points and pulled in 13 boards to post a double-double for USD.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
– ORU shot 41 percent from the field and held USD to just 28 percent shooting. It was the second lowest field goal percent for an opponent this season.
– ORU committed 11 turnovers while USD finished with 18 turnovers. The Golden Eagles finished with just four turnovers in the second half.
– All eight players for ORU scored in Wednesday’s game.
– Wednesday’s game was the first home game for ORU in more than 22 days playing four straight on the road and nine of their last 10 away from the Mabee Center.
