ORU volleyball picks up first win of the season

NORMAN – The Oral Roberts volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2016 campaign Saturday night at McCasland Field House in Norman with a 3-1 victory over UTEP.

After dropping the first set of the night to the Miners 25-22, Oral Roberts reeled off three straight set wins (25-22, 25-20, 25-20) en route to the victory.

Momentum changed in favor of the Golden Eagles in the second set after junior Shelby Cox went for five of her season high 14 kills. The Round Rock, Texas native finished with a game high .619 hitting percentage.

Junior Laura Milos also set a new season high in in the match with 28 kills  to go along with four service aces and two blocks. Milos earned All-Tournament honors after finishing with 56 kills in three matches and a .227 hitting percentage.

Inside the Box Score

– The Golden Eagles outhit the opponent for the first time this season, .266 to .192.

– ORU finished the match with 61 kills compared to the Miners 40.

– ORU did record eight service aces as Milos had four and Maggie DiPronio recorded three.

– With the victory, ORU tied the all-time series with UTEP at nine matches apiece.

Up Next
The Golden Eagles continue tournament play next weekend (Sept. 2-3) in Conway, Ark. The team will faceoff against Alcorn State, Incarnate Word, Louisiana Monroe and host Central Arkansas.
