JOPLIN, Mo. – The Rogers State men’s cross country team finished second overall and was the top NCAA Division II team at the Southern Stampede on a hot Saturday morning (Sept. 16). RSU placed three in the top 20 to earn the second spot overall to NCAA Division I Wichita State.
RSU totaled a score of 120 points to finish second in a field of 27 teams, including nationally ranked Missouri Southern (No. 12) and West Texas A&M (No. 16).
The Cats were led by senior Baylor Harvey with his time of 24:29.87 in the 8-kilometer race. He was second overall to Mark Shaw of Oklahoma City.
Junior Seth Whittington and sophomore Colton Green finished in the top 20 with personal-best times. Whittington placed 16th overall and ran a time of 25:13.74. Green finished two spots later in 18th at 25:18.36.
In his first career 8k, freshman Elijah Mackey turned in a time of 25:45.80 for a 35th-place finish. Byran Ratliff took the final scoring spot with a personal-best time of 26:31.61 as he finished in 76th overall.
Freshman Chris Largent was sixth for the Hillcats in his first career 8k in 26:54.18. In the seventh spot for navy and red was Ryan Alexander finishing in 26:57.29.
The Hillcats continue their season on Sept. 30 at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky., the Cats’ first-ever trip to Kentucky.
