GRAPEVINE, Texas  – Oklahoma Christian’s new men’s swimming team picked up its first recruit on Wednesday, as Daniel Rutledge signed a letter of intent to compete for the Eagles in the 2017-18 season.

“We are excited that we’re beginning to build a team here,” OC coach Josh Davis said. “We are on our way!”

Rutledge competes for Grapevine High School and the Mid-Cities Arlington Swimmers. As a junior, he reached the finals in four events (the 200-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays) in the Texas Class 5A state meet.

He’s met USA Swimming AAA time standards in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 800 freestyle, 200 intermediate medley and 400 intermediate medley, and AA time standards in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke.

“He will have an immediate impact in the pool and as a leader on the team,” Davis said. “He can sprint and do a little distance racing too. He should provide some great versatility for the team.”

Davis said there will be more signings to announce during the coming days.
