AXTELL, Neb. – After entering the day in third place, Great American Conference Player of the Year Stefan Idstam shot a seven-under 65 on Tuesday to move into a three-way tie for first place at the Central/Midwest Super Regional Championships at Awarii Dunes Golf Course in Nebraska.

Idstam’s score was the third-best of the day and moved him into a share of the lead with DJ Vogt of Bellarmine and Keenai Sampston at 132 strokes on 36 holes, which is good for 12-under par. His second round started with one birdie in the first seven holes, but he then birdied four of the next five holes and moved to five-under after a birdie on the 14th hole. The senior from Marifred, Sweden, then finished his round strong with back-to-back holes on 17 and 18 – which was the lone hole he double bogeyed in the opening round.

In addition to Idstam’s stellar round, three other Bulldogs carded a score of even par or better, meaning all four scores counted by the Bulldogs were par or better. SWOSU’s team score of 280 strokes (-8) has moved the Bulldogs into a three-way tie for fourth place at the Super Regional with Grand Valley State and Indianapolis. The top four teams at the conclusion of Wednesday’s final round will advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

SWOSU got a clutch round from Seth Overstreet, who had the Bulldogs lowest score on Monday but fired a one-under 71 to give him a two-round stroke total of 149 (+5). Kason Cook and Joby Gray both shot par of 72 on Tuesday, leaving Cook two-under for the tournament while Gray has shot even par in both rounds. Marques Gomez had the high score of the day with a 79, but it did not factor into the team score for the round.

The third and final round of the Super Regional tees off on Wednesday morning shortly after 8:00 am. The Bulldogs will not take to the course until the afternoon, with Gomez leading the way at 12:15, followed by Overstreet (12:25), Gray (12:35), Cook (12:45) and Idstam (12:55).
