Tulsa falls in NCAA first round Top 25 matchup

13_SB_GEN_VR_mLINCOLN, Ne. – Stanford’s Kayla Bonstrom hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to put the Cardinal up for good over Tulsa.

Stanford defeated Tulsa, 4-2, in the first round matchup on Friday hosted by the University of Nebraska.  Tulsa will next face Northern Iowa in an elimination game on Saturday at 4 p.m.

In fact, all scores in the contest came through the long ball.

Tulsa got on the board first inning when Julie Kernen homered to left field and bringing two runs across.  However, it would be the only runs of the day for the Golden Hurricane.

Stanford answered with a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning.

For Tulsa to advance from this bracket to the super regional, the Golden Hurricane must win four games in the next two days.  TU coach John Bargfeldt said that his team can’t look at it that way.

“We just have to think of the next game,” Bargfeldt said.

“Everybody knows in this game, in sports, once you get on a roll, then things change.”

He said his team just has to get things started.  They will have that chance on Saturday.
