EDMOND – The Central Oklahoma Athletic Department announced Thursday that head baseball head coach Dax Leone will not return to the Bronchos for the 2016 season.

“I want to thank Coach Leone for his years of service and the efforts he made to build this program over the past five seasons,” athletic director Joe Muller said. “However, following an evaluation of the Broncho baseball program, we have reached a decision to go a different direction with the leadership of our team. The time is right to move into a new phase of Broncho baseball.”

Assistant coach Todd George has been named interim head coach while the search begins for a replacement.

Leone had a 141-102 record in five years at the helm, leading the Bronchos to three 30-win seasons. UCO went 24-23 in his first season and then had records of 31-17, 30-19 and 37-17 before finishing 19-26 this spring.

George came to the Bronchos last year as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator after previous assistant coaching stops at Oklahoma Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma and Seminole State.
