BOLIVAR, Mo. – No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma ran its winning streak to 12 straight with a three-set annihilation of Southwest Baptist here Saturday afternoon.
The Bronchos claimed their 13th sweep of the season with the 25-16, 25-12, 25-16 rout, improving to 18-1 on the season and 6-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
UCO, the leading hitting team in the conference and among the NCAA Division II national leaders, had just five errors and 41 kills in 94 attempts for a .383 attack percentage.
“We did a great job of running the offense,” head coach Edgar Miraku said. “We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now and just need to keep building on that.”
Jordan Spence hit .364 with a match-high 10 kills, while Deborah Ijeoma Njenje had eight kills in finishing with a .471 attack percentage.
Barbara Jackson and Allison Barr combined for 13 kills with no errors in 22 attacks as Jackson had seven in 14 tries and Barr six in just eight attempts. Katy Davis distributed 35 assists for the Bronchos and Whitney Gifford paced the defense again with 18 digs.
The first two sets were tied early before Spence kills put UCO ahead to stay and the Bronchos never trailed in the third set after Njenje opened with consecutive kills.
UCO returns home Tuesday to host Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m.
