Women’s NAIA Update – March 18, 2012

• Top seed Oklahoma City took down defending champion Azusa Pacific, 78-61, on Sunday to move to 33-1 and into the Fab Four contest Monday night.

The Stars got off to a 16-2 start and led throughout.  Head coach Rob Edmisson was impressed with his team’s play without the ball.

“We did a great job on defense,” Edmisson said.  “Defense won the game for us tonight.”

Lauren Gober had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Dietra Caldwell put in 16 more for OCU.

The Stars will meet Lubbock Christian in the national semifinal, which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.  Oklahoma City’s lone loss on the season came of the hands of the Lady Chaps, a Sooner Athletic Conference rival.

• Rogers State could not extend its trip into the tournament beyond the quarterfinals.  Local favorite Georgetown (Ky.) held on to win 70-63 over the Hillcats who finish the season at 22-12, while going further in the tournament than ever before.
